Microsoft Flight Simulator

one of the longest-running, best-known, and most comprehensive home flight simulator programs on the market

Microsoft Flight Simulator was my first foray into the AAA world, and it was working on some pretty awesome airplanes!

I worked as a technical artist on these planes. My work consisted on a whole bunch of things. I integrated the art files into the engine using MSFS’s DevMode package intake system. I spent many days hunting and squashing bugs, whether it be in the ever-growing 3DS Max file changing hierarchy, materials, textures, and export settings, or in the project’s XML code files, ensuring the animations respond accordingly, the model renders as it should, and the plane moves accurately.

In addition to the planes, I also had the opportunity to work on the newest release of FlightSim 2024. Specifically, I worked on ingesting animals into the game. The animals came from Planet Zoo data, went through a conversion pipeline I built alongside Matthew Behunin, and then integrated into the game in a way that kept the engine happy. I had a hand in hundreds of animals, all with up to 70 animations each!

Out of the planes currently already released, I had a hand in the Local Legends series: the Dornier DoJ Wal Plus Ultra, Dornier Cabina, Dornier N25, S.55 Savoia-Marchetti, and its model X.
